During my research I found a few supplements that met these criteria. Because you might have different sleep needs and/or a different budget than others, I’ve listed my top sleep supplements by category.

Best Supplement If You’re On A Budget

Most of the cheaper supplements aren’t even worth your money. They often use low-quality ingredients and don’t get absorbed very well.

What I Like About It:

  • Affordable
  • Contains 2 mg melatonin (which is within the recommended range)
  • Vegetarian, non-GMO capsules and ingredients
  • Contains hops extract, which has been shown to have a sedative effect
  • Herbal blend of chamomile, passion flower, and lemon balm

What I Don’t Like About It:

  • Does not appear to ship outside United States
  • Recently updated formula no longer contains 5-HTP or tryptophan, which are both potent sleep-inducers
  • Some users report the pills have a bad smell

Best 100% Herbal Supplement

Not everybody wants ingredients like melatonin, 5-HTP, or GABA in their sleep aid. For a supplement that’s completely herbal I recommend Sleep Relax by HerbalFactors.

  • Some people report it didn’t work for their insomnia (despite the many positive reviews)

Best Supplement For Snoring

Too much snoring can lead to sleep disturbance for you and anyone who can hear you. Heavy snorers have diminished sleep quality and tend to report feeling sluggish during the day time.

There are a number of ways to address snoring, but the best over-the-counter supplement I found is a spray called Zz Snore made by a company named Asonor.

  • Not believed to have side effects
  • Manufacturer is FDA registered

Best Melatonin-Based Sleep Supplement

Melatonin is now found in the majority of sleeping aids, but they’re not all the same. Some of them have either too much or too little melatonin. Others don’t have other active ingredients to make it more effective against insomnia.
